The open day attracted farmers, college students and representatives from the South West RDA to see the wind turbine in action and learn more about the benefits of generating your own electricity.
Mr Hurford's energy supplier, Opus Energy, will buy back the excess renewable energy generated by the turbine. In the long term Robert aims to not only to be cost-neutral for his farm's electricity supply, by generating his electricity but also to make a profit.
Farmers were particularly interested to hear about the RDA's latest investment of £3.9m to help farmers and growers improve profits through better management of energy, water and inorganic waste.
There had been concerns over the little wind forecast, but the weather pulled through and the turbine was in full motion on the day.
